Welcome to Interoperability Now (IN)

Interoperability Now is a platform that invites everybody to contribute his/her ideas and concepts around the interoperability of tools and technology within language infrastructures.

This is not intended as yet another standardization committee. It’s more about committing to common values and aims. It’s about fostering interoperability and the use of open standards by bringing together the many sparks experienced in countless discussions on conferences (and unconferences), within companies and in blogs and papers.

The track records of standards within the localization and translation industry is not persuasive. Part of the idea behind this initiative is, that the problems lies one level below the standards. It's about mindsets.

There is a group of people and companies as a core team behind the initiative but the basic idea is to setup an open platform. The initiative is independent of any organization. Content and ideas published on this platform is creative common (see rules and licenses). In the best case there is no core team needed after a couple of weeks. The success of this initiative depends on the power of the community.

The Interoperability Manifesto is intended to be the first and most important milestone within this process. The page is the core page of this platform but will presumably stay empty for a couple of more weeks.

Right now the phrase language technology includes but is not limited to
  • Translation Management Systems (TMS)
  • Translation Memory Systems and Translator Tools (CAT Tools)
  • Project Accounting Systems
  • Engineering and Localization Tools
  • Source Systems (CMS, DMS,...)

This site is in a very early stage and will be promoted further as soon as some basic content is ready.
